Junior Cycle 2020

JC 2020 Update

Dear Students, Parents/Guardians,

We hope everyone is well during this emergency. To anyone who has experienced loss during this time our thoughts are with you. We are all missing the students in our school and hope that we may soon return to school in the near future.

Following an announcement from the Department of Education and Skills on Wednesday, 29th April, we can now confirm the assessment and reporting structures that Ballymakenny College will follow in reporting the learning achievements of our current 3rd year students for Junior Cycle 2020.

The Minister of Education and Skills has announced that Junior Cycle Certification 2020 will involve two elements:

  1. A State Certificate of completion of Junior Cycle from the DES. (September 2020)
  2. A School Report setting out the learning achievements of students in Junior Cycle. (end of school year 2019-20)

Ballymakenny College – Junior Cycle School Report 2020

Following consultation with teachers, the Board of Management of Ballymakenny College is pleased to confirm that the following elements will be included in the school report on student achievement in Junior Cycle 2020.

Student achievement and learning will be outlined in a written report consisting of two elements.

  1. A one page report on student achievement based on previous assessments in 2nd & 3rd year including the Mock examinations held in February/March. Third Year students will not be assessed again for the purposes of Junior Cycle 2020.
  2. A one page report on student engagement since schools closures including an evaluation of the wellbeing programme completed by students in the areas of PE, CSPE & SPHE.

This report will be completed by teachers by May 29th and will be issued to students and parents/guardians as soon as possible thereafter.

Students will receive a Ballymakenny College Junior Cycle 2020 Report in place of the SEC Certificate normally received by students in September.

We hope that this information gives clarity to all our third year students, parents and guardians.

Please stay well and we look forward to seeing you all again soon.

Yours Sincerely

Máire Ní Bhróithe Alan Mynes

Chairperson of Board of Management Principal
