Transition Year 2022/2023

16-February-17

Dear Parents/ Guardians,

This information relates to third year students who have been offered a place in our Transition Year Programme 2022/23.

The main areas of the programme are as follows:

Core Subjects - you study these all year (English, Irish, Maths, Spanish/French, Music etc.)

TY Rotations - You study 16 of these for part of the year to sample all leaving certificate option subjects other than Spanish/French and Music.

TY Picks - alternative modules that you may have an interest in that are not on the normal curriculum (Podcasting, Sports Science, Photography, Mini company, Film Studies etc.) You study each Pick chosen for half a year.

I will send all students a MS Form to complete before the end of the school year to select the TY Picks they would like to do in term 1 (September to December).

I will send further information out to you in June with a provisional schedule of the TY calendar to include activities such as the TY Bonding weekend (usually mid/late September) and Driving Course (usually late April); training dates for courses such as customer service, personal safety & self-defence, Shared Learning Days which usually include some trips and courses such as the Public Access to Law day and the Crime Scene Investigation course.

We also hope to offer an optional European trip at Easter (approx 720 euro), I will provide information on this as soon as possible.

The course fee for Transition Year is €420, due by 1st September. This is now added to your VS profile so that parents/guardians can spread payments out over a period of time if you wish.

The 170 euro TY deposit is due on the 1st of July 2022.

TY Remainder Fee of 250 euro is due on the 1st of October 2022.

TY Class lists will be distributed before we return to school for our TY start up in August 2022.
